COLUMBUS, Ohio — One person is dead after a shooting in the University District involving Columbus police early Sunday morning, according to a public safety dispatcher for the city.
Sgt. James Fuqua said officers working patrol in the area of North High Street and 9th Avenue were flagged down around 3:30 a.m. about a robbery that had just occurred.
While looking for the robbery suspect, Fuqua said one of the officers was flagged down by two people who said a man had approached them and pointed a gun at them. They gave the officer a description of the suspect and very soon after, the officer saw a person that matched the description.
According to Fuqua, the officer immediately attempted to stop the individual, but they began running, leading to a chase.
