Regardless of one’s political leaning, U.S. Rep. Josh Riley should be supported in his quest to have a truly independent reassessment of the recent Central Hudson rate increase.

The joint attack on his proposal by both the company and our so-called public servants, the Public Service staff, should be sufficient in and of itself to cause an investigation. The fox and the hens breaking bread together is no mere accident.

From the very beginning of the Fortis attempt to buy Central Hudson to the Sept. 29 criticism of Riley’s proposal by the utility and the Public Service staff, there has been something unholy in the relationship. The losers in this have consistently and regularly been the customers who should have been protected from the egregious onslaught of Central Hudson’s machinations.
