Traffic along the Silchar–Imphal National Highway 37 came to a standstill after a major landslide blocked the road near Lakhipur in Assam’s Cachar district on October 12.

Continuous heavy rainfall triggered the slide in the Jujang hill area, dumping large amounts of mud and debris across the highway.

Officials confirmed that hundreds of vehicles, including passenger buses and trucks, remain stranded on both sides of the blockade. Excavators have been deployed to clear the debris, but the volume of mud has made restoration efforts slow and difficult.
