In a significant breakthrough, another accused has been taken into custody on Sunday in connection with the alleged gang-rape of an Odia medical student near a private medical college in Durgapur, Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal.

Following the development, the total number of arrested accused has reached four.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Apo Bauri, Firdos Sheikh, Nasiruddin, and Rezaul Sheikh. All the accused have been placed under a 10-day remand while the investigation continues.

Authorities are reportedly conducting an extensive investigation, including deploying drones over the forest area where the crime took place to gather evidence.

Earlier, three persons were arrested in connection with the horrific incident after 36 hours.
