Hundreds of people gathered at hostages square in Tel Aviv on Sunday with preparations underway for the freeing of the hostages still held in Gaza as well as the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
Israel said Sunday that it expected all of the living hostages held in the Gaza Strip to be released Monday, confirming the next phase of the breakthrough ceasefire deal with Hamas.
The details emerged as the region prepared for U.S. President Donald Trump to visit Israel and Egypt — the latest in the swift flurry of developments since the ceasefire was announced last week, offering hope for an end to the two-year war.
Trump, who pushed to clinch the ceasefire deal, is scheduled to arrive in Israel on Monday morning, before heading to Egypt.
People in Tel Aviv began erecting Israeli and U.S. flags in hostages square, while a man dressed as a Trump impersonator posed for photographs with the crowd.
As part of the ceasefire deal, Israel is to release around 2,000 Palestinians.
Among them are some 1,700 people that troops seized from Gaza during the war and have held without charge since. They will be returned to Gaza.
