NEAR TOFTE — Light rainfall overnight helped keep a wildfire burning in a North Shore state park from growing and allowed crews to up its containment.
The Crosby Fire, started by a lightning strike within George H. Crosby Manitou State Park on Wednesday, remained at 300 acres for a second day, and its containment jumped from 50% to 70%, the Minnesota Incident Command System said in an update Monday.
Ketzel Levens, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Duluth, said Monday that up to a quarter of an inch of rain fell in the area of the fire over the last 24 hours. No additional chance of showers is expected until Thursday and Friday when a "much wetter air mass" arrives, Levens said.
While Monday could see wind gusts around 20 miles per hour, it won't be as dry as last week
