The James Franklin era at Penn State has come to a merciful end.

The end came following a third-straight defeat Saturday in a 22-21 homecoming loss to Northwestern .

The final two results will live in infamy – an 0-4 team hadn’t beaten a top-10 team in 40 years until UCLA did last Saturday. Then a day ago, Franklin’s team became the first in history to lose back-to-back games as a three-touchdown favorite.

The boos were heavy before the meeting Northwestern at Beaver Stadium, and were crippling post-game.

Penn State chose Sunday to move on from Franklin , who signed a 10-year contract in 2021.
