A woman has died after being hit by a car in a shopping centre carpark.

The 58-year-old was struck by a Mazda on Jervois St in Port Augusta, South Australia just after 1.30pm on Sunday.

She was rushed to hospital but died shortly after.

The underground carpark was closed to the public while police investigated the crash.

The Mazda driver, a 23-year-old woman, was arrested by police and charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

She was refused bail to appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court on Monday.
