QUINCY (WGEM) - Some may say the sound of a hammer and anvil belongs to a bygone era, but for Quincy resident and hobbyist blacksmith Dave Bowen, that sound is a part of his heritage.
“I’ve been doing this for about five years, but I have quite a family history of doing this,” Bowen said. “My great-grandfather started his blacksmith shop in 1896.”
He even has the original lease for the shop.
Bowen was one of many vendors at The Quincy Museum’s Folklife Festival earlier Saturday.
Families enjoyed games, activities, food, and even an old-fashioned tug-of-war competition featuring local first responders.
Teams from the Tri-Township Fire Protection District, Anytime Fitness and Quincy High School won the contest in the heroes league, the open league and the student league, respectively.
