A federal inmate in Chattanooga is facing more jail time after a violent escape attempt Saturday afternoon.
A corrections officer at the Salvation Army Residential Reentry Center on McCallie Ave. said Larry Evans, 39, was acting strange, and kept trying to run from the facility, according to an arrest report obtained by Local 3 News.
He was foaming at the mouth, checking car doors, and later grabbed an officer by her arms and refused to let go. Other inmates and staff had to pry his hands off to free her and calm him down. His behavior was consistent with side effects of illicit drugs.
As other officers with the Chattanooga Police Department responded, they say Evans leaped to his feet, pushed past other staff members, exited and picked up a large rock beside the door.
