The marquee outside a senior social club on Broadway in Gary asserted it was safe and sound.

The club had run into trouble with the Indiana Excise Police, who had raised it for gambling and serving alcohol without a permit. Started in 2008, the nonprofit club was set up like a tavern with a bar, refrigerator, tables, craps table, cards, dice and a jukebox, according to police.
