A man is in a critical condition, while an elderly woman sas been left uninjured after two masked men burst into their South Coast home.

A man in his 30s and a woman in her 70s were at a home on Yarralumla Crescent in Tomakin when the attack occurred about 1am on Monday, October 13.

"Officers from South Coast Police District were informed that two men wearing face coverings entered the home through unknown means where a 39-year-old male occupant was assaulted," a NSW Police spokesperson said.

"The men left the home via the rear of the premises."

Paramedics treated the injured 39-year-old man at the scene and then took him to Moruya Hospital.

He has since been airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a critical but stable condition.

A 77-year-old woman who was at home was uninjured.
