BLOOMINGTON ( 25News Now ) - Homelessness is still viewed as a crisis in Bloomington heading into the winter months even as significant progress is made on building a $2.5 million village of small cabins known as The Bridge.
The city council Monday night will again be asked to declare the situation a disaster and public health emergency, granting the city manager authority to waive certain building code requirements to allow for increased shelter capacity.
“Homelessness continues in Bloomington, with residents at risk during extreme weather, and temporary flexibility remains necessary to ensure adequate indoor shelter capacity,” city staffers said in a report.
