The Toronto Blue Jays lost Nathan Lukes in the fourth inning of Sunday’s ALCS game against the Seattle Mariners.
Lukes fouled a ball off his knee during his at-bat in the first inning and was down on the ground in clear discomfort on the play before being attended to by Blue Jays training staff.
The 31-year-old ultimately stayed in the game and worked a walk, but he was replaced by Myles Straw defensively in the top of the fourth after flying out in the bottom of the third.
The Jays later said Lukes had a right knee contusion. After the team’s loss, Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Lukes had X-rays and a CT scan that were negative for a fracture.
Lukes, who was batting second for Toronto in Game 1 against Mariners starter Bryce Miller, was a key contributor to the Blue Jays’ ALDS
