KANSAS CITY, MO — It wasn’t the refs. Not even close. The calls that helped tilt the game were legitimate, made because of the Detroit Lions ’ mistakes on a night when they put forth their worst defensive performance of the season.

Those mistakes were made worse when safety Brian Branch smacked Kansas City Chiefs wideout Juju Smith-Schuster in the helmet when the game was finished and players were gathering to shake hands. That led to a scuffle – an ugly moment in a game that started with so much promise.
