A woman has said her abusive boyfriend forced her to scam a retailer out of thousands of dollars by requesting fraudulent refunds on products she had never purchased.

Amelia Bridget Watson, 34, pleaded guilty to 29 counts of dishonestly acquiring a financial advantage before Magistrate Robert Webster in Hobart on October 10.

Police prosecutor Sam Barker told the court that the case began when police were called to Officeworks' Hobart shop on April 16, 2024.

He said staff became suspicious after Watson had used a receipt on multiple occasions to claim a refund on goods.

Investigations later revealed that the accused woman had visited the store on 17 separate occasions between December 10, 2023, and April 15, 2024.
