Twenty Israeli hostages held by Hamas are expected to return home within hours as part of a historic ceasefire agreement that US President Donald Trump claims will end the devastating war in Gaza.

The living captives will embrace their families and friends for the first time in more than 738 gruelling days, while the loved ones of 28 people will receive the remains of their relatives.

The transfer process between Hamas and the Red Cross is currently underway in Gaza, with the critical moment coming when the 20 living hostages are in Israeli hands.
