West Bengal Police have arrested the fifth accused in connection with the alleged gangrape of a second-year MBBS student in Durgapur, the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate confirmed on Monday.

Police clarify role of survivor’s friend

Deputy Commissioner of Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate, Ashishek Gupta, told Bhaskar English ,

We have made the fifth arrest in the case. Wasif Ali, whose name appears in the FIR filed by the survivor’s father, has not been arrested but is being interrogated. Since the survivor has not filed an official complaint against him, we are questioning him to verify if others were involved in the incident
