An inquiry into the effectiveness of an ACT government tax raising money for domestic and family violence services has heard victims are missing out on receiving support due to delays in services.

Domestic Violence Crisis Service ACT chief executive, Sue Webeck, told the Legislative Assembly inquiry into the Safer Families Levy that victims were being made to wait half a week before they could get a response.

"Canberrans are in a situation when they need the support of a frontline service crisis response agency they don't always get through and we have people waiting three or four days for us to be able to get back to them," she said.

Ms Webeck said other people were not receiving support because they were still living in the home where violence had taken place.
