Title: Israeli Hostages Expected to Be Released from Gaza Soon

As President Trump embarks on a trip to the Middle East, Israeli officials anticipate the release of hostages held in Gaza. Hamas has agreed to a ceasefire that includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Approximately 20 of the 48 hostages believed to be held by Hamas and other factions are thought to be alive. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, "Israel is prepared and ready to immediately receive all of our hostages."

The Israeli Cabinet approved the framework for the deal last Thursday. U.S. service members have begun arriving in Israel to oversee the ceasefire's implementation. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that up to 200 U.S. personnel from Central Command will monitor the peace agreement. Some of these troops will be deployed on the ground, while others will assist from a distance. The U.S. will also coordinate with international partners, including Egyptian and Qatari forces.

Trump is scheduled to meet with families of hostages and address the Knesset, Israel's parliament, during his visit. He will also travel to Egypt to co-chair a peace summit with leaders from over 20 countries to discuss stability in Gaza and the broader Middle East.

In Gaza, hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians are returning home as the first phase of the ceasefire takes effect. The ongoing conflict has resulted in over 67,000 Palestinian deaths since Hamas's attack on October 7, 2023, which killed around 1,200 people in Israel, mostly civilians. The local health ministry reports that malnutrition has also claimed lives, with at least 440 deaths, including 147 children, attributed to this issue.

Fadel Mghari, a freelance photojournalist based in Gaza, noted the mixed emotions among citizens. "Citizens receive the news with great caution. There are simple and few manifestations of joy mixed with some pain on those we lost, and what we lost from a great loss in all walks of life, from homes, schools, streets, and hospitals," he said.

In Tel Aviv, hundreds gathered at Hostages Square in anticipation of the expected release. Preparations are underway for the freeing of hostages and the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. Israel confirmed that all living hostages are expected to be released on Monday, marking a significant step in the ceasefire deal with Hamas. As part of the agreement, Israel will release around 2,000 Palestinians, including approximately 1,700 individuals detained during the conflict without charge, who will be returned to Gaza.

The situation remains fluid as both sides navigate the complexities of the ceasefire and the humanitarian crisis in the region.
