A three-month-old infant died shortly after he was administered polio drops in Bhimra, Kangti mandal, Sangareddy district of Telangana on Sunday, reports said.
Parents had initially suspected that the death was from polio drops but a postmortem examination said that the baby had died due to laryngeal spasms and tightening of the throat, which led to food aspiration into the lungs.
The boy was the fourth child of the couple Umakanth and Swarnalatha, who have three girls. The parents said that the infant faced breathing problems almost immediately after the Asha workers administered polio drops. He vomited and fainted later. When he was rushed to Narayankhed government hospital, the doctors declared him dead., the parents said.
