ST HELENA ISLAND, S.C. — Four people are dead and several others are injured after a mass shooting early Sunday morning at a bar on St. Helena Island, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said hundreds were gathered at Willie’s Bar and Grill on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive for a Battery Creek High School reunion event when gunfire erupted just after 1 a.m.

When deputies arrived, they described a chaotic scene: dozens of people running for cover, some seeking shelter at nearby businesses. At least 20 people were hurt, investigators said. Four of them died at the scene, and several others were taken to hospitals by EMS, while others arrived at emergency rooms on their own.
