Kochi: St. Rita’s Public School, a 27-year-old institution managed by the Augustinian Sisters of the Most Holy Annunciation, was temporarily closed for two days following concerns related to school uniform policy and campus safety. The school, situated on St. Augustine's Convent Road in Palluruthy, has an enrollment of over 600 students.

The situation arose when a newly enrolled student attended school wearing a hijab. The school administration informed the parents that, in line with its uniform policy, religious attire is not part of the prescribed dress code. The school emphasized that this policy is intended to maintain uniformity within a diverse student community.
