A Kent man has been jailed for almost four years after he sexually assaulted a young child. Nicholas Kerswell targeted the victim in an incident in Swale.

The crime was reported to a relative and police officers were alerted. They swiftly tracked him down and he was later charged with assaulting a girl under 13 by touching.

Kerswell, of Plough Road, Eastchurch, admitted the offence at his first appearance before Medway Magistrates’ Court on July 28. He also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of burglary.

This related to a break-in at an address in Bridgewater Road, Sheerness, on March 28, 2023. Being sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on September 30, the 34-year-old was jailed for three years for the sexual assault and was given a further 10 months in prison for the burglary.
