The biggest move of the college football coaching carousel this year may have been made on Sunday with Penn State firing head coach James Franklin midway through his 12th season with the program.
He accumulated a 104-45 record with the Nittany Lions and made it to the College Football Playoff semifinals last season. However, three straight losses to Oregon, UCLA and Northwestern in a year with national title aspirations brought his tenure to an end.
Franklin will undoubtedly land another job if he is interested in one and with mounting discontent by fans after Michigan State’s third straight loss on Saturday, some are calling to bring Franklin to East Lansing.
