The Mattapoisett Museum is unveiling a new permanent exhibit that explores the history and culture of the Wampanoag people.

The exhibit, "From the Land to the Shore: The Wampanoag of Mattapoisett," opens at 6 p.m. Nov. 6, according to a community announcement.

The exhibit covers the Wampanoag's 12,000-year history in New England, focusing on the early contact period, colonization and the impact of King Philip's War. It also highlights the challenges of preserving Mattapoisett-specific Wampanoag history due to colonization and displacement.

Exhibit features restored diorama

The exhibit features a restored diorama of a Wampanoag summer village, created in the 1990s by an Old Rochester Regional High School art teacher and students.
