ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – An Elmira woman has been arrested on welfare fraud charges following an investigation led by the Chemung County Department of Social Services Special Investigations Unit and the Elmira Police Department.
Jada Ferrell, 25, was arrested on Friday, Oct. 10, on the following charges, as stated in a release from the Elmira Police Department: • Welfare fraud in the third degree (class D felony) • Grand larceny in the third degree (class D felony) • Offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree (class E felony)
Officials say Ferrell was charged with the crimes after an investigation revealed that she had filed false documents with the Chemung County Department of Social Services and received $5,618 in SNAP benefits that she wasn't eligible for.
