MINOT — On a recent episode of the Plain Talk podcast, my guest co-host Zach Raknerud posed an interesting hypothetical to me about President Donald Trump commandeering the National Guard for law enforcement purposes.
"I don't know if it'll be North Dakota's Guard or if it'll be South Dakota's Guard, but I feel like one of these neighboring states to Minnesota is going to be called for their Guard to deploy to Minneapolis," Raknerud said. "I'm curious, how do you think Governor (Kelly) Armstrong's going to respond to that?"
My response? I don't know, though I'm glad it's Gov. Armstrong who has to make that politically fraught decision (if it ever comes) and not me. But, in retrospect, I think Zach asked about the wrong state leader.
