NEW YORK (PIX11) — Unemployed New Yorkers who qualify for the highest benefit amount will begin to see an increase in the total starting this week.

The new maximum unemployment benefit in New York increased by over $300 as of Monday. It's the first time since 2019 that the maximum number has risen.

Those who certified with the state last week and qualify for the highest allotment will see $869 on this week's check and beyond. If you certify this week, your check will increase next week. The minimum benefit amount is $136.

You do not need to apply for the benefits increase. The rate is automatically recalculated by the state. Benefits are calculated based on your income during the last four quarters.
