(WHTM) - Nebraska head football coach and State College native Matt Rhule reacted Monday to Penn State firing James Franklin and the speculation he could become the Nittany Lions' next head coach.

"I love Penn State," said Rhule. "Met my wife there, my alma mater, fan since I was born... think I probably had a Penn State shirt on when I was born. I love (Athletic Director) Pat Kraft, and really sad to see Coach Franklin go."

Rhule noted the place Penn State football was in following the Jerry Sandusky scandal and said he "really respects" Franklin and the work he did.

"(My wife) Julie decides where we live," Rhule noted, and said he does not plan to discuss Penn State's job opening going forward.
