For more than two decades, a small group of dedicated volunteers with Maple City Citizens On Patrol have been doing their part to help community events run smoothly.

Tom Chivers, a retired Chatham Jail correctional officer, said he decided to organize MCCOP in the early 2000s “on a whim,” recalling when the community used to be served by REACT (radio emergency association communications team).

He said many community events are required to bring in security and MCCOP volunteers often work with the security firm to provide extra manpower.

The biggest event MCCOP has worked was the 2018 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo held in Pain Court which saw nearly 78,000 people attend the multi-day event, he said.
