As the full name suggests, horses are a key part of the week-long Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show.

Bleachers around the infield were filled Saturday as people gathered to watch the six-horse hitch competition. Meticulously groomed Percherons, Belgians, and Clydesdales wearing elaborate tack and harness pulled beautiful wagons with a driver and co-driver.

A nine-hour drive from Berthierville, Quebec to Simcoe proved worthwhile for Eric Chretien’s team, winning the Saturday competition and its $1,200 prize. Chretien also won the Ontario 4-Horse Hitch High Point final on Friday – the big class of the year for draft horse competitors — and its $3,500 prize.
