Pittsburgh native Denny Monks spent years in New York City completing his medical residency, all while crammed into what he calls 425-square-feet of “unremarkable drywall” that had no access to green space.
Once he returned to his hometown of Pittsburgh in 2014, Monks purchased a classic, solidly made city home that served him well for several years — but he always had his eyes open for something special.
In 2018, a condo at 2132 Sarah Street on the South Side grabbed his attention.
The four-story unit was tucked into the choir loft of the former St. Casimir Church; built in 1902, it once housed the Lithuanian Catholic congregation. Over the years, the building had fallen into disrepair and was likely to be razed, until developer Ivor Hill stumbled across it when leaving a guitar class
