The FDA has not been able to get in contact with Haitai Inc. USA to inform the company of its findings on HAETAE ground cinnamon.
The FDA recommended that Singh Trading Inc. DBA Roshni Foods initiate a recall for Roshni ground Cinnamon.

More ground cinnamon products were added to a health alert because they contained elevated lead levels, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced.

On Friday, Oct. 10, the FDA sent out an additional health alert warning that HAETAE-brand and Roshni-brand ground cinnamon contain elevated levels of lead. On Oct. 8, the administration added Durra and Wise Wife ground cinnamon.

"Exposure to these products may be unsafe," stated the agency in the release.

Since the summer of 2024, the agency has been sending out alerts warning of elevated lead levels in a total of 16 ground cinnamon products.

Before the FDA sent out alerts in October of this year, it had added Jiva Organic ground cinnamon to its list in September.

The FDA is also analyzing additional cinnamon samples for the presence of elevated levels of lead.

Why are elevated levels of lead dangerous?

Per the FDA, "short-term exposures to very low levels of lead may not elicit any symptoms." The federal agency added that increased blood lead levels may be the only apparent sign of lead exposure; however, additional signs and symptoms are "more likely with acute exposure to higher levels of lead or chronic exposure to lead."

Lead can affect nearly every bodily system, but its effect depends on the amount and duration of exposure, as well as the individual's age and body weight, according to the FDA. For children, exposure to enough lead for weeks to months could cause permanent damage to their central nervous system, resulting in learning disorders and other long-term health problems, the federal agency added.

For adults, chronic lead exposure is linked with kidney dysfunction, hypertension and neurocognitive effects, the FDA said.
