SUGAR ISLAND — A house fire Sunday morning in Chippewa County severely burned the homeowner, according to the Sugar Island Volunteer Fire Department.

Fire Chief Josh Horner said firefighters were dispatched at 11:21 a.m. to a mobile home on North Brasser Road after neighbors reported hearing and feeling an explosion.

When crews arrived, they found the home destroyed and on fire. The homeowner was taken to MyMichigan Medical Sault for treatment of severe burns.

The Michigan State Police will lead the investigation into the cause of the fire because of the extent of the homeowner’s injuries.
