NORTH BENNINGTON — On the morning of October 2, a box truck hit the Silk Road Bridge, one of three local covered bridges that span the Walloomsac River.

RJ Joly, Director of Public Works for the Town of Bennington, was alerted to the situation shortly after the incident – just as he was on the morning of July 28 when a different large box truck hit the Henry Bridge.

There were a number of similarities in the two incidents.

"They were both hit and runs," explained Joly. "And luckily, two awesome citizens recorded – filmed – the vehicles and reported them."

In the Henry Bridge incident, that footage was instrumental in solving the hit and run. Police were able to track down the driver of the vehicle and identify the employing agency – and the agency's insurance company covered the cost o
