FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) – It’s officially peak season for deer on Kentucky roadways, and state transportation officials are reminding drivers to stay alert as wildlife activity increases through the fall.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has issued its annual “Antler Alert,” warning that nearly half of all deer-related crashes happen in October, November, and December.
State Highway Engineer James Ballinger said deer crashes spike sharply this time of year — with more than 700 wildlife collisions reported last November alone, the highest of any month.
Drivers are urged to slow down at dawn and dusk and watch for deer crossing the road. “A moment of caution can prevent a serious crash,” Ballinger said.
