LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The ACLU of Nevada is challenging an agreement between Metro police and ICE to assist in immigration enforcement, and to hold people in custody when they would otherwise be released.
An ACLU lawsuit filed on behalf of Sergio Morais-Hechavarria, 36, who is in custody at the Clark County Detention Center (CCDC). He is on a hold with no projected release date, even though a Nevada judge ordered his transfer to an inpatient treatment facility.
The ACLU has scheduled a news conference on Tuesday to announce the lawsuit, which indicates there have been 957 requests for ICE holds at CCDC since the start of the year. That count was from Sept. 1, 2025.
