GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - It’s all friendly competition as students at Starr Elementary in Grand Island work day in and day out to be awarded one of the school’s two traveling trophies.
“It’s a pretty simple incentive, literally a free incentive, if you will,” said Selena Valentine, Starr Principal. “But for the kids, it’s a big deal to get the spoon or to get the trophy.
Over the summer, the Starr staff looked at how they could improve their students’ common area behavior in places like the lunchroom, playground and hallways.
A repurposed old trophy was created as the “Hallway Expectations Trophy,” and DIY giant spoon from Hobby Lobby is awarded to the class seen following expectations around the school by their specials teachers.
