CLEVELAND (WJW) -- The streets of Cleveland’s Little Italy came alive Monday afternoon as the annual Columbus Day Parade made its way down Mayfield Road.

Organized by The Italian Sons and Daughters of America, the parade is a long-standing tradition for Northeast Ohio’s Italian American community.

“We just love the parade — the kids love the parade,” said Tim Marks, spectator.

Thousands of people lined the parade route to watch floats, vintage cars, and high school marching bands fill the streets. Children cheered as candy was tossed their way, while others enjoyed Italian pastries and sunshine.

Organizers said the celebration was held downtown for decades before moving to Little Italy in 2004.

“Everybody comes down here with their family and friends to enjoy the day,” said Ralph King
