BURLINGTON, Iowa (KWQC) - A Burlington man was arrested after the seal around an apartment’s front door and its latch were charred and melted, police say.

A woman called police and told them a man, 37-year-old Michael L. Horton, was outside her daughter’s apartment and would not leave at about 7:13 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of North Gunnison Street.

Officers said they saw smoke coming from an upstairs hallway. They found a yellow powder in front of an apartment door as well as a large burn mark around the doorknob.

Officers knocked on the door and spoke with the caller’s daughter, who told them she and her friend Horton had gotten into an argument around 2:30 p.m. about him losing his phone, according to arrest affidavits.
