RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Nevada Department of Transportation says it will reduce lanes on I-580 south later this week to allow for maintenance to be done on their anti-icing systems.
Alternating directions of the highway will be reduced to one lane from Oct. 14 to Oct. 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. between Mount Rose Highway and old U.S. 395A exit 16.
Speeds will be reduced to 55 miles per hour, and drivers should expect moderate delays.
The annual maintenance will be conducted on four bridges on I-580 between Mount Rose Highway and the Bowers Mansion area, which helps delay ice formation on bridge surfaces.
Pavement sensors on the bridge automatically activate spray disks within the concrete, and each recessed disk sprays a potassium acetate anti-icing solution.
