The Pirates will certainly need to add power in a more aggressive fashion to improve their major league club, but they added some in minor league fashion Monday by claiming outfielder Will Robertson off waivers from the Chicago White Sox.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Pirates designated Ryan Kreidler for assignment.
Robertson, 27, made his MLB debut this past season, totaling nine RBIs in 27 games split between the Blue Jays and White Sox. He’s played left field, right field and center field (once) so far in MLB.
There does seem to be some pop in Robertson’s bat, as he hit .289 with 21 doubles, two triples, 20 home runs and 60 RBIs in 89 games split between Triple-A Buffalo (Toronto) and Charlotte (Chicago). Robertson’s combined OPS: .958.
