The Muslim physicians who opened the Halim Clinic in Toledo drew on the character and generosity of the Prophet Mohammed.

Dr. Nasser Hajar, a gastroenterology specialist, and president of the Halim Clinic board, said he is constantly telling people they see everyone regardless of ethnic, cultural, or religious background.

“We see all patients, not just Muslim patients,” he said. “If you need us, we are happy to serve you.”

Established in 2017, the Toledo-area physicians wanted to offer free medical care to patients who cannot afford health insurance.

The clinic started with doctors volunteering at area homeless shelters and community events. Semi-regular clinics were then held at Toledo Masjid Al-Islam, a mosque in North Toledo.
