ALASKA - A powerful typhoon has wreaked havoc in western Alaska, leading to the rescue of dozens of residents, with three people still unaccounted for.

According to a spokesperson for the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the storm brought hurricane-force winds and flooding, causing homes to float away, potentially with people inside.

Approximately 900 individuals have sought refuge in schools as the extreme weather continues to batter the region. Images received by the newsroom illustrate the severity of the situation.

This typhoon is among several extreme weather events occurring currently, with the East Coast experiencing high surf and heavy winds and California bracing for potential mudslides.
