DAYTON, OHIO (WDTN) - As temperatures fall and daylight gets shorter, it’s time to get the car checked out and watch for any animals on the road.

Finally some consistent cooler weather in the Miami Valley, and between Monday and the end of October, Dayton will lose 45 minutes of daylight, meaning nocturnal animals like deer will be more active around the times of day when traffic is at it’s highest.

Last year, there were nearly 20,000 deer strikes in the state with seven being fatal. This year, there have so far been just under 12,000 strikes, and eight fatalities, with the most active strike season coming up.
