WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Virginia Senator Tim Kaine discussed the government shutdown on Monday that’s stopping thousands of federal workers from receiving their paychecks.

Kaine told 13News Now that he believes there is “no reason” for the shutdown to continue, mentioning he thinks President Trump should intervene.

“We need a president who will engage,” Kaine said.

The Senate fell short of passing a continuing resolution multiple times over the past two weeks due to budget disagreements on health care.

“What Democrats have put on the table is, there’s some healthcare fixes we need to make so that people’s premiums don’t spike, and we need to know that if we come to a deal, you will honor the deal,” Kaine explained. “Congress will honor the deal, will the White House honor the deal?”
