OCEAN CITY — City Council voted unanimously to designate the site of a deteriorating condominium complex near 34th Street an area in need of rehabilitation, a step toward potential residential development.
For the past two summers, the units in The Seaspray on Bay Avenue have been inaccessible, with red tags warning that the building has been declared unsafe.
Some residents and elected officials have called the building an eyesore.
“This is one of the grand entrances to our city. The last thing we want to see there is what we’re seeing there now,” Council member Jody Levchuk said.
The HOW Group, a real estate acquisition and development company in Philadelphia, has an agreement to buy the building and a proposal to build 43 residential units at the site.
