The U.S. Coast Guard on Monday confirmed that its active-duty military members will continue to receive pay during the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The agency, which falls under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has a training center in Cape May.
Shortly after the shutdown began Oct. 1, U.S. Rep Jeff Van Drew, R-2nd, introduced legislation that would allow for Coast Guard and Federal Aviation Administration employees to continue being paid. Both bills were referred to the House Appropriations Committee.
"The men and women who serve this country should never have to worry about a paycheck because of Washington's dysfunction," Van Drew said in a statement at the time.
