Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, 83, was set to report to federal prison Monday afternoon.

In June, the disgraced politician was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. He must also pay a $2.5 million fine and will be required to serve three years probation.

Madigan was convicted in February of 10 counts of bribery, conspiracy, wire fraud and other charges in a mixed verdict.

Prosecutors argued Madigan ensured the approval of legislation favorable to utility company ComEd in exchange for kickbacks, jobs and contracts.

Earlier this month, a federal appeals court denied Madigan’s request to remain free while fighting his conviction.
